Since 1993, CompTIA has been conducting basic IT certification tests (CompTIA A + certification). Since 2001, they have been releasing a new version of the test after every three years to keep the score in line with current IT practices and the latest technology. The latest version designed for exam preparation is called CompTIA A + Core Series and was first available in January 2019.
The Comp TIA A + Core series is divided into 2 separate tests and you must pass both tests to become certified. Each test includes 90 questions and time duration of 90 minutes – one minute for each question. These questions are usually MCQ’s, drag and drop, and performance-based questions in which you need to manipulate part of the screen image to answer a question.
The Comp TIA A + Core test is quite difficult but if you study hard and prepare well for the exams, you can easily ace the exam in the first attempt. 1. CompTIA A + Core 1
This test measures the necessary skills required by new IT professionals for an entry-level position. It includes 5 main domains, each includes several subdomains. The domains are:
1.0 Mobile Devices (14%)
This section covers all areas related to mobile technologies such as cell phones, laptops, and tablets, etc. For this domain, you need to understand device synchronization and help people whose devices suddenly start working strangely. Approximately 14% of the questions in the 1001 test are about this content, which also covers all the accessories used by this type of equipment and how to make the most of these accessories.
1.1 Networking (20%)
This section covers all areas related to IT Networking. Be it a wired or wireless network, IT professionals should know everything about it and how to make it work. This domain covers a variety of topics, including installation, hosting, connection types, and useful tools. Networking test questions account for about 20% of 1001 tests, which also covers the concept of security solves these problems.
1.2 Hardware (27%)
This domain will demonstrate your understanding of all areas related to hardware (cables, connectors, RAM, and storage devices). While attempting this test, you should have a clear understanding of this topic. The questions will require you to imagine a situation and propose a solution to resolve the problem. This section also covers printers and other hardware devices.
1.3 Virtualization and Cloud Computing (12%)
This section covers all areas related to virtualization and cloud computing. About 12% of test questions are based on this topic. Virtualization has become a big problem in today’s computing world and cloud technology is being used in many industries. There are many requirements to consider in virtualization and cloud computing that you’ll learn after studying the topic.
1.4 Hardware and Network Troubleshooting (27%)
This section covers all areas related to hardware and network troubleshooting. About 27% of questions are related to this topic. The questions include scenarios and you have to provide your suggestion on how the situation can be improved, whether it is related to hardware and network issues. Whether wired or wireless, desktop or small, they all have to solve problems.
2. CompTIA A + Core 1
This test focuses on knowledge of software, operating systems, and security. It has 4 main domains, each includes several subdomains. The representation of each area are as follow:
2.0 Operational Procedures (23%)
Managing IT systems is not an easy task and requires a great knowledge of correct operations and procedures. IT professionals are aware of risk management and should know how to prevent a problem from occurring. For this, you need to be familiar with all the security and professional aspects. The questions on this topic make up about 23% of the 1002 test.
2.1 Security (24%)
In the IT industry, providing safety and security is the top priority, and this test has widened the scope of the concept: about 24% of the 1,002 tests cover the concept of security. When answering related questions, you should review the procedures for protecting personnel and their information. In this test, you will be asked to envision a specific scenario and use your security knowledge to maintain the integrity of the operation.
2.2 Software Troubleshooting
The area of infected software is related to security. The questions in this domain will thoroughly examine correct and safe programming procedures and all types of software in terms of security and functionality. These problems represent about 26% of the 1,002 tests. Securing stationary devices like desktops is one thing, but because our technology is generally small and easy to move around, many other methods are required in today’s world.
2.3 Operating System
These issues do not affect Windows and other operating systems but affect many systems, including installation and maintenance. You should understand all the functions of the system and the tools related to their functions. It is important to understand which type of system is best to use for specific purposes. About 27% of Test 1002 comprises questions related to the operating system.
